Lawrence Morton - Liza Pruitt

Lawrence Morton

Lawrence Morton is a color field artist in Toronto who loves to create large luminous works that add a spark of joy and beauty to people’s lives.

Morton begins the process by stripping down the subject matter to its essence and applying multiple layers of transparent colour. Over time, the colours interact, overlap and coalesce, creating a sense of depth and interest.

Morton work in oils, taking advantage of their unique lustre, richness and long drying time. His process is gradual and deliberate. A piece can take weeks or sometimes even months to complete.

Largely self-taught, Lawrence studied art and art history at the Toronto School of Art and Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. In 2019, he was awarded a grant to the Chateau d’Orquevaux Residency Program in France.
