REBECCA GOEPP
Rebecca McRae Goepp is a native of Atlanta, Georgia. Her grandmother, Anne Mitchell, was a lifelong artist and helped foster Rebecca’s passion for artistic expression from a young age. Rebecca first worked with ceramics, painting and photography while at The Lovett School. Later, Rebecca attended Washington and Lee University where she was able to explore Art History and study drawing and painting. Upon graduation, she continued to study at the Chastain Arts Center in Atlanta and then the Good Dirt Studio in Athens. During her graduate program at the University of Georgia, Rebecca studied play and art therapies, that continue to influence her work today.
She works with a variety of mediums, including acrylic, oil pastels, pencil and charcoals. Her most recent work has been primarily focused on acrylic and mixed media paintings.
When my grandmother passed away, she left me her beautiful paint set and brushes. I still use those brushes today and I feel that her spirit and passion still influence me and are part of the reason why I gravitate towards artistic expression. For me, painting is both escapism and an avenue for soul searching. My most recent work has been about confronting what I find challenging and intimidating as an artist. I have really attempted to explore color and depth in new ways and let my emotions, both my joys and sorrows, find translation on canvas.
I am grateful and fearful at the same time to show my work because it feels so vulnerable, but ultimately feel like we are called to share our joys with one another… and painting and creating is truly a joy for me.
