Artist Spotlight: Janie Pinney

We are so thrilled to welcome Janie Pinney to Huntley Belle Designs' Collection. It is so exciting to introduce a fellow Richmond designer who exudes passion for color as much as us. Therefore, "Lighthearted Littles" releasing Thursday,  July 26th at 8 pm est. will bring a pop of color to any room!

A little insight into Janie's world:

'"Art has always been an important part of my life. My current focus is abstract subject matter, and color is often the catalyst which drives me in the beginning of a painting. The rest tends to fall into place after evolving through a back and forth process. I find daily influences from people, images, experiences, and nature. Oils are my preferred medium, but I love to experiment with different forms of mixed media to create layers, texture, and depth.

I have learned so much from workshops, teachers, and fellow artists over the years and am always looking ahead to build upon that knowledge. I think allowing space to be vulnerable has been an important aspect of growth for me, and I want to continue to push myself in order to progress. There is relief in letting go of certain rules and boundaries as it makes room for experimentation and expression.

I am beyond fortunate to have a wonderful husband and three daughters who I adore. They are constant sources of encouragement. I am so excited to continue to explore with abstract and traditional painting in hopes of evoking some sort of a connection that would be compelling. It’s a wonderful way to lose track of time and as Picasso said…."brush away from the soul the dust of every day life."'

1 - When did you start painting?

I started painting when I was 9 years old. My mother signed me up for art lessons as a compliment to all the outdoor adventures we had growing up in a small town.

2 - Where do you draw your inspiration from?

Literally everything! I never know what experience is going to spark inspiration in color, texture, or composition……it just happens and is constant.

3 - What is your favorite subject to paint?

I love the spontaneity and freedom of abstracts, and I often reference aspects of nature in my paintings.

4 - A fun fact about you!

I’ve always loved playing the bongos...... but no one would EVER want to listen!

5 - Where is your favorite place to vacation?

Anywhere with family and/or friends……. I love a beach!
