Artist Spotlight: Megan Elizabeth
Meet Megan! Megan Elizabeth is an abstract artist in NYC. She explores light, movement and texture in her work, which is inspired by the ocean and her travels around the world. We are so happy and honored to be working with Megan. She inspires us everyday. Being a mother, wife, running a full time business and while expecting her second child any day now! We are releasing Megan's Seascapes this Friday, August 7th at 9:00 am. Mark your calendars!
When did you start painting?
I have always painted and loved making art since I was just a little girl! I love exploring new ideas in my work and experimenting with color, texture and capturing observations from my travels.
Where do you draw your inspiration from?
I am most inspired by my travels, walks around new cities exploring, and by new beaches at sunrise and sunset. I love being near the water, but I am also a total city-girl.
What is your favorite subject to paint? I am obsessed with capturing the light at the ocean and often paint oceans, but I am also really drawn to capturing abstract bits of light and petals. My subject matter changes
A fun fact! I am fluent in Spanish and studied in Madrid to earn my Masters in Spanish Literature. I’m also really tall - 5’10”!
Where is your favorite place to vacation? I love traveling ANYWHERE. We recently went to Paris as a family and had a total blast, but I also love exploring new places anytime I have the chance. We vacationed in Montauk this summer and it was absolutely gorgeous.
What has been your favorite collabration and why? I've had so many amazing opportunities to work with companies as an artist in the past 3 years.
I currently have an online class available with Brit and Co that was so much fun to work on. Here’s more about it: https://www.brit.co/shop/catalog/acrylic-painting-abstract-oceans_41260/. I am currently working on some fun new collaborations with new shops and galleries + I have a few surprises in store!
I also won a West Elm + Minted contest once and it was such a cool honor. Here’s more about the painting that won! https://www.minted.com/product/art/MIN-1B4-MGA/verano?color=A&shape=
My paintings are available as desktop calendars through one of my favorite blogs: @designlovefest.
Who inspires you?
I am inspired by any women who run small businesses. I think it’s so wonderful to see so many people chasing their dreams and working together to help one another succeed as entrepreneurs in today’s economy.
Artistically, I have always loved (since I was a little girl, I loved the book “Linnea in Monet’s Garden”) Monet and Georgia O’Keefe.
