Meet Textile Designer: April Atchley
Hi April! Welcome to LP Spotlight! To start, can you tell us a little bit about your background? Where did you grow up and what led you to pursue a career in fine arts?
I grew up in Charlotte, NC with a Dad who is a custom home builder. His work opened up the world of construction and interior design to me. I have always had a creative bent, but it wasn’t until college that I really leaned into that. I pursued a degree in Interior Architecture at Samford University. Little did I know, it would be my Fine Arts minor that would win over my time and energy (and love). Although I have a soft spot for interior architecture and design, it’s behind an easel with a paint brush in hand that I feel most at home.
How did you transition from artist to textile designer?
Given my background in design, it was a natural transition to have my artwork blend itself into an aspect of interior design. Bringing artwork to textiles allows me to brighten a home in a new way. Growing into a textile designer through my fine art hits the sweet spot for me in balancing art and design.
We are so excited to offer this exclusive line of pillows and napkins featuring your designs. What inspired you in creating these designs?
As I created these designs, I kept thinking what colors, what strokes, what feeling do I want these pillows to bring to a home. Envisioning a home that is welcoming, hospitable, and exciting was my inspiration and motivation along the way.
Do you have any plans to expand into more product lines?
Next up: Fabric by the yard! After that, sky is the limit. I hope to one day see my textile designs hanging as curtains and draped over beds as duvets.
How would you describe your art in three words?
Cheerful, Lively, yet Calming
