Meet Textile Designer: April Atchley

Meet Textile Designer: April Atchley

Hi April! Welcome to LP Spotlight! To start, can you tell us a little bit about your background? Where did you grow up and what led you to pursue a career in fine arts?

I grew up in Charlotte, NC with a Dad who is a custom home builder. His work opened up the world of construction and interior design to me. I have always had a creative bent, but it wasn’t until college that I really leaned into that. I pursued a degree in Interior Architecture at Samford University. Little did I know, it would be my Fine Arts minor that would win over my time and energy (and love). Although I have a soft spot for interior architecture and design, it’s behind an easel with a paint brush in hand that I feel most at home.

Designer Spotlight: Ashley Hanley Featured in House Beautiful

Designer Spotlight: Ashley Hanley Featured in House Beautiful
When interior designer Ashley Hanley called her friend and regular collaborator, Liza Pruitt, to enlist her help in placing art in a project she was working on, she had a vision but needed help sourcing local art that would fit the client’s budget. The house was a 1939 Colonial Revival in Richmond, Virginia, so the overall aesthetic leaned traditional. With that said, the client had a bubbly personality and a fondness for color, so Ashley wanted original art that wasn’t too dark or stuffy. The client also frequently entertained guests from out of town and was looking to create a peaceful, relaxing ambiance - “almost like a boutique hotel.”   Continue reading
